Admin Technology Skills for Office Profe

This 500-hour course prepares the student for various office careers including secretary, administrative assistant, office manager, recordkeeping clerk, general office clerk, file clerk, data entry operator, word processer and customer service representative. The training includes the skills needed to perform day-to-day responsibilities in an office setting including performing basic recordkeeping, word processing, document preparation for storage, accurate filing of records, and use of computer software and operation of office equipment in various types of office settings. Clerical and administrative workers need to be proficient in the use of computer applications, able to communicators well, and they must demonstrate good interpersonal and customer service skills. To meet these needs, this course endeavors to prepare the student by engaging them in a variety of learning models including lecture, demonstration and practice; small group discussions; and office practice simulations. Later courses involve office technology including various Microsoft products and the integration of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. In order to properly use these applications, the student will practice business math to help in creating functions and formulas in Excel, business writing and document formatting to properly use Word to create acceptable business documents, and manual filing systems that enhance the use of Access for electronic recordkeeping. Upon completion of these courses, the student will complete a comprehensive final project that integrates the Microsoft Office Suite products using all new skills and simulates the real-world of office technologies.
