Credential for Strengths-Based Family Workers (sfw)

This 90-hour course is designed to foster the knowledge, skills and attitudes that family workers need; its goal is to ensure that those who are in direct contact with individuals and famililes achieve maximum effectiveness in the delivery of helping services. The course curriculum meets current academic and credentialing standards, builds on other existing Family Development training models and measures student's achievement of core competencies. This model promotes students' success in assisting families develop the knowledge and skills they need. The SFW training course identifies six core compentencies (along with practice behaviors and learning objectives that help to define these competencies) which are known to facilitate improved outcomes for families. The course builds on the six competencies as a core for effective Strengths-based Family Worker education. These are documented in the SFW portfolio by the student and the student's Learning Coach.
