English As a Second Language for Students Who Are Deaf Or Hard-Of-Hearing

This class is designed for Deaf ESL students and is taught in American Sign Language. We will practice and develop reading and writing skills using a bilingual-bicultural approach. Course topics include English reading strategies, writing sentences and paragraphs, grammar, punctuation, idioms, and vocabulary expansion. Class activities include reading English news items and discussing in ASL, describing images and photographs in writing, and translating our thoughts and ideas from ASL into written English. You will have opportunities to work together with your classmates and form optional study groups for practicing outside of class. Suitable for all levels. Participation requires access to a computer with Internet and a webcam.
