English As a Second Language for Students Who Are Deaf Or Hard-Of-Hearing

Students who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing will take an individualized approach to learning English reading and writing skills in this 8-week course that focuses on everyday language in meaningful contexts. Activities include reading English stories and discussing in ASL, describing images and photographs in writing, and translating our thoughts and ideas from ASL into written English. Students will work at their own levels, so both beginners and those with a little more experience are welcome. Textbook may be required and can be purchased after the first class. Participants should be able to communicate in ASL and have access to a computer with Internet and a webcam.
