Introduction to Art Appreciation
During this six-hour course students will learn how to evaluate and appreciate art in a whole new way. An overview of the history of art will be provided to trace the evolution of art from ancient cave paintings to contemporary times. By examining the works of many famous artists, students will learn about major periods in art history and a variety of artistic styles. Participants will gain an understanding of the creative process, perspective and composition. The use of color, color theory and the aesthetics of color will also be discussed. Students will also be encouraged to develop an awareness of art in their everyday lives by looking at examples of art in such things as architecture, fashion, home furnishings and other objects they see every day.
