Gettysburg Part I-Intro to 19th Century And Gettysburg Day 1

An introduction to 19th century warfare, the events leading up to the battle of Gettysburg, and the first day of fighting at Gettysburg. This is the first part of a two-part course covering the battle of Gettysburg during the War of the Rebellion on July 1-5, 1863. Part II (to be taught in the Fall) covers the fighting on day 2 and 3 at Gettysburg, Lee's retreat and Meade's pursuit, and the mythology and legacy of the battle of Gettysburg in American culture.
