Social Issues for Nursing Home Administrators

The primary function of the course is to provide the student with the skills and knowledge to identify the major social, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs of residents and their families. The roles and functions of the social worker in identifying and establishing resources available on the community, local, and are discussed. Also discussion on the different stages in the process of death and grieving. Attention is given to medical directives, living wills, durable powers of attorneys. The effects of these directives on the elderly resident are analyzed.
