Gerontology for Nursing Home Administrators

This course provides the students with skills and information necessary to understand the physical changes that occur with aging. It will prepare the student with the knowledge to differentiate between physical changes of aging and the pathological changes of disease. Psychological change, defense mechanisms, and specific changes that occur in each body system will be discussed. The role of the nursing home staff will be discussed with a focus on the following areas: professional ethics, basic nursing care, drug administration, infection control, dealing with the dieting client and his family.
