Medical Terminology

This course teaches medical terminology from an anatomical approach. Root terms are divided by each body system. The origin, a combined form, and an example of non-medical everyday usage is provided for each root term. Word associations are provided as a learning tool. Unusual and interesting information is provided in regards to each term. Root terms are combined with prefixes and suffixes as your learning will culminate in the interpretation of several paragraphs of medical notes. COMPETENCIES/SKILLS TO BE LEARNED 1.Learn to identify commmon root and musculoskeletal root terms and their meanings. 2.Discern and memorize integumentary and digestive root terms and their meanings. 3.Identify and memorize cardiovascular and respiratory root terms and their meanings. 4.Recognize and commit to memory urinary and reproductive root terms and their meanings. 5.Identify and memorize neurosensory root terms and their meanings, and review current terms to date by recognizing their use in sentences. 6.Learn the common medical prefixes and suffixes A through H. 7.Learn the common medical prefixes and suffixes I through O. 8.Learn the common medical prefixes and suffixes P through Z. 9.Identify the meaning of medical prefixes and suffixes used for color and abbreviations of common medical titles. 10.Get to know common medical abbreviations A through R. 11.Finish common medical abbreviations S through W, and memorize abbreviations of hospital areas, laboratory tests, chemistries, and medical symbols. 12.Get familiar with directional terms and word combinations.
