Tying Warm Water Flies

Tying Warm Water Flies is designed for the angler who wants to tie his or her own flies for pursuing warm water game fish. In this course, you will learn how to choose the right fly pattern for the fishing situation and begin to build a working selection of warm water flies. Topics to be covered include: fly design, fly size, fly color, and fly selection. Warm water flies fall into the following categories: top water flies, floating/diving flies, subsurface flies, and bottom bouncing flies. You will learn to tie patterns from each category (for example, the sparkle grub, the Clouser deep minnow, the crippled minnow, and the Clouser crayfish). Some tools are required: vice, scissors, bobbin, hackle pliers, bodkin, whip finish tool, and hair stacker. Students will not need to purchase tools for the first day of class. Materials and hooks will be provided. Sign up for the companion course, Warm Water Fly Fishing, in Summer 2019!
