Health Support Services for Nursing Home Administrators

This course is designed to provide students with the basic pharmaceutical requirements of elderly residents. Discussion will include: recommended daily doses; how aging affects doses; drug destruction; food and drug interaction; rules and regulations regarding drugs and biologicals; handling and storage of drugs; regulations for administering and labeling of drugs; systems of inventory control including plans for drug purchasing. This course will also prepare the student in the area of medical records. List of Federal Documentation Requirements for the Medical Records Programming including minimum data sets and components of the medical records system that document how the facility is meeting the resident's individual needs and adaptation will be analyzed.
